Mount Bromo
Description:
Mount Bromo is situated around 4 hours away by car from Surabaya, the capital of East Java. It is a prominent feature of the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park, which spans an extensive area of 800 square kilometers. Although relatively diminutive compared to other volcanoes in Indonesia, Mt Bromo is nonetheless awe-inspiring, offering breathtaking vistas and striking scenery. With a height of 2,392 meters, Mt Bromo may not be one of the tallest mountains in Indonesia, but its remarkable beauty resides in its breathtaking surroundings.
Located at an elevation of 2,770 meters above sea level, Mount Penanjakan offers a scenic viewpoint that is around 2.5 hours away from Malang. Tourists from several countries travel to witness the sunrise over Mount Bromo. The view from this location is spectacular. Visitors will hear only the sound of camera shutters as they attempt to capture the awe-inspiring view of Mt Bromo in the foreground, Mt Semeru emitting smoke in the distance, and the sun ascending rapidly in the sky.
Numerous legends and mythologies were inspired by the eerie terrain. Mount Bromo holds special significance for the Tengger people, who believe that a valiant monarch gave his life for his family there. Once a year, during the annual Kasada festival, the locals appease the Gods by throwing vegetables, poultry, and money into the crater of the volcano.
