Mount Ijen

Description:
The Ijen plateau sometimes referred to as 'Kawah Ijen', is strongly recommended for individuals who have a deep appreciation for nature and enjoy hiking. The Plateau was formerly a vast, actively volcanic crater spanning an area of 134 square kilometers. Ijen is a tranquil yet dynamic volcano, with the terrain primarily characterized by the volcanic cones of Ijen (2,368 meters above sea level) and Merapi (2,800 meters above sea level) on the northeastern border of the Plateau, and Raung (3,332 meters above sea level) on the southwestern corner.

The splendor of Ijen Crater has gained global recognition. This lovely lake was designated as a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve in March 2016. Upon your arrival, you will be immediately greeted by a delightful cool wind after traversing a path adorned with abundant greenery. The average daily temperature in the vicinity of Ijen Crater often hovers around 10 degrees Celsius. Occasionally, it may even reach a temperature of 2 degrees Celsius.

During the day, the captivating spectacle of sunlight illuminating a turquoise lake shrouded in mist will leave an indelible effect on you. Multiple diminutive vents are present in the vicinity of the crater. Sulfur miners rely on them as a means of transportation, ascending and descending from the crater to the lake daily. During the early morning hours, you have the opportunity to observe a remarkable natural occurrence in which flames with a blue hue will manifest surrounding the crater. Referred to as the Blue Fire, this event often takes place at approximately 05:00 AM.
